Donald Trump is losing patience with Vladimir Putin’s stalling tactics over the Ukraine ceasefire, the Finnish president, Alexander Stubb, said after spending nine hours with the US president – including winning a golf competition with him at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Saturday.
Stubb, who also spent two days with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, last week in Helsinki suggested in a Guardian interview a plan for a deadline of 20 April, by which time Putin should be required to comply with a full ceasefire.
Stubb pointed out that a third golf partner on Saturday, the Republican senator Lindsey Graham, already has a bill in the US Senate proposing what he has described as “bone-breaking” US sanctions on Russia if it did not accept an unconditional ceasefire.
The round of golf diplomacy seemed to make a positive impression on Trump, who wrote afterwards on his Truth Social platform: “I just played a round of Golf with Alexander Stubb, President of Finland. He is a very good player, and we won the Men’s Member-Guest Golf Tournament at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach County …

Lol.
To mine.
A dope ring.
(who went to the drive-in to see “Closed For The Season”?
They froze to death.)
Now that’s some funny stuff right there
😃😄🤣🤣🤣🤪😜
“Zelensky has agreed to everything President Trump had asked after that meeting.”
Then why is he refusing to pay us back for the military aid already sent to him and denies it as a loan?
I don’t think neither Zelensky nor Putin want to stop fighting.
It’s certainly not in our interest to get involved.
If neither side agrees I say stop all aid to Ukraine and Tariff Russia and anybody that trades with them.

A word to the wise, marcus - never post a story about Finlanders.
I wonder if he’ll ever escape it.
” last week in Helsinki suggested in a Guardian interview a plan for a deadline of 20 April, by which time Putin should be required to comply with a full ceasefire.”
Sure pal. Want fries with that?
Neocons always lie. Propaganda and carnage is what they do.
April 20th has been President Trump’s total ceasefire deadline since last November.
The thing that nobody talks about is China. If this war keeps going on and the Europeans get involved with troops in the Ukraine then expect the Chinese to show up. Unlike the last time we fought the ChiComs modern China has more industrial power than America does and Russia is their next-door neighbor while America is across the ocean.
Trump has a lot on his mind. Can you imagine? My bet is on Trump. Putin and Zelensky can pound sand.
“Putin likes Trump but will not get played by the Neocons, yet again.”
The problem is the Minsk II deception and the fact that the Russians know that in 3.8 years, Trump will be gone and they will have to deal with a new administration. They are well aware of the razor thin majority in Congress and that in 1.8 years midterms could flip the house.
Knowing that, they will not agree to something just because the Finnish president and DC is desperate for a deal.
It's the German beer at work, but -- and with apologies to Bob Frost --
Some say the world will end with ire,
Some say with frice.
From what I've tasted of the two
I hold with those who favor ire.
But if it had to dine, dine twice,
I think I know enough too late
To say that for Finns frice
Is also great
And would suffice.
“Zelensky has agreed to everything President Trump had asked after that meeting.
Now President Trump will bring Putin to heel.”
Amern. May this be so.
“Trump is the best chance Putin has to bring this fiasco to a close and re-integrate his economy with the Western world.”
Trump hasn’t offered that. And as for trying Trump’s patience too much, there are limits to what we can do. We have done the “nuclear option” sanctions. We are at the limit of attacks we can do inside Russia without getting nuked.
We can try sanctions against anyone who does business with Russia...and then we will have sanctions against Singapore, India, Brazil, Turkey, China, Mexico, etc.
And then there is that sticky problem. Whatever they agree to now is what they will have forever and the president and a future Congress will probably want the neocon thing on again. Last, all of the EU is braying to throw gasoline on the war.
There are some hard realities as to why Putin is not simply obeying.
TYPO CORRECTION:
“Zelensky has agreed to everything President Trump had asked after that meeting.
Now President Trump will bring Putin to heel.”
Amen. May this be so.
These people make it up as they go along.
Sometimes betting on either side is a losing bet. Britain won two world wars, and where is it today?
“We have done the “nuclear option” sanctions.”
No, the “nuclear option” sanctions would be the ones that Trump has just said he might do - secondary sanctions on any buyer of Russian oil (25 or 50% is what he said, as well as mentioning barring them from business with the USA). That would effectively halt Russia’s oil export revenue cold, in a financial train wreck far more sudden and severe, than what brought down the Soviet Union.
China and India have already both already been tested with American (Biden) sanctions on some of the shadow fleet tankers, and both have shown to be unwilling to broach US sanctions on those small subsets of Russian oil exports.
The bottom line is that US trade is much more vital to all the large buyers of Russian oil - as long as adequate essential quantities can be purchased elsewhere. That was not the case in 2022, but is the case in 2025 - with or without OPEC.
Russia’s financial buffers have been exhausted by the adventure in Ukraine, and they are more vulnerable to an oil revenue shock than ever.
Trump card. Who’s the boss?
Hi, k. 👋
The folly of using a ceasefire demand on Putin, after a decade of betraying Putin to his face, with multiple promises, Agreements, stalling tactics, all centered around avoiding Russia’s red line against NATO encroachment, biolabs and nuclear ramps in Ukraine, is really dark humor.
The West has no self-awareness. It’s embarrassing.
Europe wants nukes.
They just may get them.
