After graduation, nephew and his new wife rented a one room/one bath apartment in Manhattan. $4900/mnth (like 10+ yrs ago). Luckily they both landed great jobs and eventually bought a house on long Island for half mil. They said the mortgage was cheaper, however the train ride started wearing on them. Eventually sold out and moved back to the Poconos in PA. Less pay but more relaxing.
