Why would you say that?
Imagine you are NBC - the President gets assassinated - the government is investigating the crime of the century - the whole world is watching - and you have a key piece of evidence.
Why on earth would you withhold it? That’s obstruction - a very serious crime. Also, you are a news agency and you have an exclusive relating to the crime of the century - wouldn’t you have every incentive to break the story?
Unless… the government knew about the film and was ordering you to withhold it from the public for some reason.
But why would the government force a news agency to suppress a piece of evidence - if they wanted to bury it wouldn’t they take possession of it themselves?
Something is fishy.
