Autism, schmautism. How does a child of 3 get diagnosed as autistic? The kid cries a lot and nothing the adult does seems to be effective. I think it is a sign of poor bonding between the child and the parents and the child expresses frustration. Autism diagnosis is a vehicle to being able to medicate the child. This is a consequence of not having two parents in the home.

Some possible reasons to mention it:

The child's behavior was unusual or difficult, and frustrated the babysitter, contributing to the urge to murder the child;

the child required a more specialized caregiver that the unmarried parents did not or could not afford to provide.

Reporters are so used to supplying reasons to pity the criminal of color, it just pops right out of their keyboard.
