They would be struck dead. Only the proper family of the Levite tribe can handle the Ark. Even then they have to move it using the two wooden poles. Touching it is a big no no.

If one believes the OT then one knows that ordinary people handling the ark will die. The ark was stolen before and after many, many deaths it was given back to the jews. Paraphrasing … “send it back before it kills us all”
