Those eventually leach out and are carried by streams to the ocean to become calcium carbonate. Some soil carbon is oxidized by the sun. Much of that CO2 eventually burns, as we have seen.
The "fertilization effect" of enriched atmospheric CO2 is not the boon presupposed. It produces broader tree rings, which results in weaker wood. It increases seedling survival rates because it reduces drought stress, that is, until the warm season. There is more snow caught in the branches of denser stands of trees which then sublimates instead of percolating. The result is an increase in decadent fuel. Hence, it is destructive to biodiversity.
