Heh . . . I forgot: I spent 2 hours at the left rear of an M-60 MBT, with the tank and myself going nowhere, back in 1972. Wind direction not in my favor. (And not a hostile environment; though I could claim, that the enemy was “the Russians.”)
But that would have been almost nothing, in contrast to your impound.
Heh, it sounds like your enemy was the cold wind-I assume the exhaust grates of the tank were not something you could get behind...:)
When I was in the Navy, when it got cold, we would go stand in the plume of jet exhaust!
It was hard to breathe, but the warmth was glorious, and you could get it as warm as you could stand...but you always had to keep your eye on what was going on with the plane. If you were standing back there and not paying attention, they weren’t going to let you know if they were going to begin taxiing.
They figured if you were back there not paying attention, then it was none of their business! and if you were stupid enough not to pay attention, it got your attention when they began goosing the throttle to taxi the plane!
