President Donald Trump revealed that a staffer with national security advisor Mike Waltz's office included the editor-in-chief of the Atlantic in a Signal group chat with senior Trump officials who were discussing plans for an upcoming strike on Houthi rebels in Yemen.
"It was one of Michael’s people on the phone. A staffer had his number on there," Trump told NBC in a phone interview when asked how Jeffrey Goldberg, the Atlantic's editor-in-chief, was added to the high-profile chat.

‘ You think everyone involved knew who “JG” was? You’re daft if you think so.......Sheesh!’
Shouldn’t they have? Sheesh indeed.
Posted elsewhere here a few minutes ago: Laura Loomer claims to have uncovered a potential Chinese espionage operation involving Alex Wong, Trump’s Deputy National Security Advisor appointed on November 22, 2024, and his wife, Candice Chiu Wong. Candice C. Wong clerked for Justice Sotomayor, began as a U.S. Attorney in 2015 under the Obama regime, was nominated to the U.S. Sentencing Commission in 2023 by Biden, and prosecuted J6ers. Alex worked at Covington & Burling, a firm Trump stripped of security clearances on February 25, 2025, for “Weaponizing Government.”
How about assuming it was U.S. trade representative Jamieson Greer? Nice try Fuzzy
Good grief, do you need instructions to face the right way when peeing? Or are you blind?
It had ELEVEN questionable attendees. TG, JG, TG, MAR (unvetted initials, could’ve been anybody), plus TWO people both called Susie Wiles (I’d have questioned that), two Brians (without surnames - that was dodgy), a Jacob (also without surname) and a MAR were in the chat. The eleventh was the journalist dude.
If they were only discussing last night’s telly, it wouldn’t matter if NINE of them were just random adds.
Since they were discussing a military operation, and nobody questioned a single anomaly in the audience list, it’s INDEFENSIBLE.
And you wonder why Five Eyes is literally thinking, you’d have had stronger operational security if you had asked a team of high school nerds to run this op. Because they wouldn’t be anywhere near as incurious as this bunch of wallies.
Sorry, I repeated one. But the last one was Scott B. Could’ve been Scott Bollocksname, for all they knew. Never checked, did they.

Hegseth literally posted a list of times and manoeuvres.
There was nothing abnormal for such a chat to take place over this encrypted network. The Signal app has been existence since early in the Biden administration.
The only story here is what staffer allowed Goldberg's number to be a part of his secure phone's address book and how Goldberg made it into the chat.
Look sport, I’m all on board in supporting Trump, his administration and all his appointees, regardless of their alleged misdeeds. I have no intentions of joining the witch hunting Democrats, and their willing media, in their attempts to take down not only Trump, but every one of his appointees. Specifically, Waltz, Patel and Bondi, as you and others appear to be doing.
This current non-event is being driven by the Democrats, as suspected, and it pisses me off that idiots like you are falling in line with their baseless accusations. Not only that, the number of so called Trump supporters on this forum who are calling for the removal of Bondi and Patel. One has to wonder where their, and yours, true loyalties lie……..
‘ How about assuming it was U.S. trade representative Jamieson Greer? Nice try Fuzzy’
I responded to your post that said:
‘ You think everyone involved knew who “JG” was? You’re daft if you think so.......Sheesh!’’
They should have known.
Now you want them to assume the trade representative?
Maybe Jerry Garcia.
I don't assume anything bro. I'm supporting Trump and all his appointees and refuse to join the ranks of the Democraps, and their willing MSM in their effort to bring down Trump and every one of his appointees, which you and numerous other so called Trump supporters on this forum appear to be supporting......
So just support regardless of the circumstances?
That’s not virtuous,
Sorry dude, not mud wrestling with you anymore......
“ Sorry dude, not mud wrestling with you anymore......”
I understand.
It’s a difficult position to defend.
Look, don’t get me wrong. From your point of view, you HAVE to defend Hegseth and Waltz, even though it’s patently absurd and indefensible to do that, out of a misguided sense of “my country, right or wrong”.
But I’m willing to bet, if Biden’s team had done this instead of Trump’s team, I’d eat my hat if you’d have let it slide. No way. Donald Trump would have been spitting feathers, and would’ve demanded heads roll, and would’ve pointed the finger at Biden’s useless team, if not at Biden himself. And you’d have been on board with him. It would’ve been “lock her up!” redux.
Go on. Tell me I’m wrong.
There’s a fundamental difference between how British politics works, and American politics work. We Brits don’t have an overblown sense of cultism around our political leaders. If anything, we’re as anti-cult as it can ever get. We’re equal opportunities haters. If you don’t believe me, check out Ministry of Wit on X. Or, watch some archive episodes of Spitting Image.
But, we will admit, sometimes, even a guy we hate who’s representing a party we hate, can get something right; and sometimes the guy we’re rooting for has screwed up. This is why, unlike the USA, we don’t disown family members and unfriend our mates simply for voting the wrong way.
I’m the same mindset on US politics. I support President Trump, but I don’t agree with everything he does. I haven’t criticised President Trump on this particular matter because he wasn’t involved in the chat at all. But that’s no good reason to give Hegseth and Waltz a free pass.
Everyone in the chat should’ve been asking JG, “who are you?” and if they didn’t, President Trump needs to be shouting at all of them like he shouted at Zelensky because he can’t afford to have rank incompetence on that level, damaging HIS administration’s credibility.
If one of the participants was actually in a Russian building surrounded by Russian spooks, using an insecure app to talk about that kind of stuff, and it gets out, that creates a major embarrassment for the White House and this stuff is CATNIP to the Never-Trumpers.
The best way to kill a witch-hunt against Trump’s appointees is to remember the simple fact that most political gaffes fall into one of two categories - cock-up, and conspiracy. If it’s a genuine cock-up, and it’s obviously a cock-up, then a swift mea-culpa and a strong slap on the wrist from the boss often kills the conspiracy theories.
By conrast, if everyone starts getting very defensive, and seeking to deflect blame onto junior staff, while downplaying what happened, and even outright lying about it, OF COURSE the conspiracy theorists will go to town - because they’re being gifted the ammunition. President Trump already knows this - when he saw Biden and team acting shady as hell, he shouted it from the rooftops. And he made it clear, when running for POTUS and selecting his team, that his administration would do things differently.
So it is in President Trump’s interests to say, actually, this was one hell of a cock-up, and under his Presidency, he’ll make darned sure it doesn’t happen again.
‘ Go on. Tell me I’m wrong.’
I won’t.
Ta, but I was directing that at Tabasco.
Updated scuttlebutt from inside the NCSC of the UK - users of Signal or Telegram can now e
connect with those on WhatsApp.
So another cyber risk is, it’s very easy for an inattentive meeting host to extend the audience to people on unregulated platforms. Without any safeguard.
Not an issue for planning Grandpa’s surprise birthday party. Seriously problematic if you’re giving out a timeline of an imminent military operation in another country, that the wrong participant could broadcast to the enemy ahead of the launch.
