I foolishly signed up for a flight to Asia with a 1+ day stopover in China. Those security folks at the airport escorted me back to the airline to purchase an earlier departure. Had to eat the ticket and hotel stay.

Highly unlikely! These guys make $100-$200K a year. And it's easy to imagine that this thing could have even cost the guy his job.I don't know about you but my family always joking says about me "he'd forget his head if it wasn't attached to him".
