Nice little obscure rock throwback, I had that album. Very obscene I realized. We’ll never be able to replicate those days of album rock on the radio, even with music subscriptions.
When I listen to old stuff I’m often struck by how practically every song is about sex, prostitutes, drinking, drugs, getting arrested, the very things that tend to sell records to teen buyers. :^) At the time it didn’t even register. I was compiling a 70s anthology of arena rock for my friends’ kids (they were deep into rock band camp), but listening to prototypes I had to cut a lot of old faves — Like You Do” (REO), I’d known right away not to even consider “30 Days in the Hole”. :^)
I read a drama-queen sort-of review of a remaindered copy of “Greetings from L.A.”, a college paper scrawler who later wrote for Creem, the title was something like, “It’s 197? (I can’t remember what year) and Tim Buckley is Dead”. TB’s albums are numerous and each quite different. Died of OD I think. His son had no recollection of him, used to perform his songs, had a career in his own right, then up and died young.
