Ventilators did not emerge from Covid with a great reputation.
It was a death sentence to be put on a ventilator.
My 25 year old son got Covid bad (he has asthma). He walked into the hospital on his own power and talking. I forget what his O2 level was but it was VERY low - in the 40’s IIRC. (At 90 one is supposed to rush to the ER.) His lips were blue.
The admitting doctor was amazed. Kept him off a ventilator and the line in the nose helped along with the medicines and he improved. When the doctor left that night he told everyone to NOT put him on a ventilator unless he was called. Told my son too - DO NOT let anybody except me put you on a ventilator. He said while his numbers were still very low and he SHOULD be on a vent, his appearance and physical demeanor told otherwise.
Even the doctors knew that the ventilators often turned into a death sentence.
