I remember about 55 years ago there was a plan to pull antarctic Icebergs to Arabia and melt them for the water.
One of many schemes and dreams in science magazines back then.

That must have been before the Saudis could build desalination plants.

I remember reading about that also. Someone tried it, but it was just not economical at the time.
