Evans said that rather than prioritizing reducing emissions, the new plan will prioritize helping residents adapt to living in a warming world

Got it. They gave up.

We just saw how unpredictable and unreliable green energy can be. When Heathrow lost its main power source, the biomass backup generator refused to switch on. Turns out it needed electricity to operate. The rotting organic material just sat there.

Evans looks like her degree is in Human Resources, not engineering.

A human resources degree makes it much easier to BELIEVE in the great hoax.

A number of years back, I mentored a grad student at Cornell University in Ithica. Most memorable from the university were all the dogs, and even a few cats in the classrooms. A previous alumnus of the University had given a large grant to it that was contingent on the university allowing pets on campus and in the classrooms. It made the classes quite interesting.

Given all the doggie-dung this produces, I now wonder if they could now meet their “Green-New-Deal commitments by burning the doggie dung for heating and cooking. That would substantially reduce their electrical requirements. I’m sure North Korea would be happy to sell them the necessary dung stoves. There could even be extra-credit classes for collecting and drying the dung. This would give them first class experience in real science.

“I’ve even proposed the perfect place as my candidate to be the guinea pig for the “net zero” demonstration: Ithaca, New York.”

Menton is a totally fun guy.

“Yes, for reasons known only to the geniuses of New York State local governance, Ithaca consists of two independent adjoining municipalities, a City and a Town, sharing the same name.).”

NYS [upState, away from the utopia of NYC] has no shortage of Townships within Counties who do the some of the work that only Counties do in other States.

When I wuz a kid in the 50s/60s, our township plowed the snow on my street minutes before the school bus stopped by so that I rarely got a Snow Day from school.

“New York City we have our own building electrification mandate called “Local Law 97” that is said to require some 50,000 buildings to convert to electric heat and cooking by 2030. Does anybody really think we can make any more progress toward such a goal”

It’s too bad for them that the ubiquitous glass telephone booth is a relic of the recent past. They could have counted all those in the city toward their goal of 50k buildings. They ARE all electric, though the heating is non-existant... as are the cooking amenities.

I would have picked Boulder, Colorado.

“...as are the cooking amenities.”

The booths make a fair wind shelter in which to do some crack piping.

No shortage of woke Uni. towns.

They could all become demonstration communities.

Ithaca is more “remote” from large Urban Utopias, like Denver, and so may arguably be a cleaner experiment.

“”Cornell University in Ithica.””

You should have taken some time while there to learn the correct spelling of the city’s name.

“”providing residents with better access to social services, like housing and job training,””

HOW is that supposed to help solve their problem?

“government-led commitment to community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030 that focuses on addressing historical inequities, economic inequality, and social justice.”

In other words it has nothing to do with where electricity comes from, it’s just another repackaged Marxist equity wet dream - ie, free stuff for everyone!

She’s fairly explicit at saying that...

“Evans said that rather than prioritizing reducing emissions, the new plan will prioritize helping residents adapt to living in a warming world, while also working towards the city’s emissions-reduction goals. That could include providing residents with better access to social services, like housing and job training, and improving the city’s emergency response and electricity reliability.”

Leftists easily fall victim to mission creep until the mission becomes incoherent and often self-contradictory.

This is a story of continuing greatness!

Oh, not by the climate cultists of Ithaca and elsewhere. The continuing greatness of the Manhattan Contrarian!

Thanks for posting these.

She’s has two useless “environmentalism” degrees that have zero engineering content.

Basically “social science” and she looks like the poster child for that.

“Prior to working with the City of Ithaca, Rebecca received her bachelor’s in Environmental Science from the University of Lynchburg and her master’s in Environmental Policy Ethics from Virginia Commonwealth University.
