So Baker was involved with the assassination to hid his 'criminal wrong doings' and he still went to jail?

Involving yourself in assassinating the President seems like a lot more to lose than just getting caught in shady business deals.

18 months in prison for business fraud vs. execution for treason.

Baker was not involved in the assassination.

LBJ’s problem was that he was involved in some of Baker’s criminal activities and Baker had already ratted out LBJ to get more lenient treatment—and LBJ was going to be headed straight from the Vice Presidency to prison....

If JFK lived long enough to make it happen.

Obviously LBJ had to be comfortable the plot would work—before taking the risk.

That was his call—he rolled the dice and won.
