I typically avoid eating in any restaurant that has a menu running more than six pages. The great restaurants specialize in a few dishes and do them better than anybody else. Whereas when you try to appease everybody you often end up not pleasing anybody.
Know your wheelhouse!
Agreed. A huge menu selection is an immediate red flag for me too. It seems like CF is barely making a dent in its “YUGE” menu. No thanks….
Amen! If a menu has more than 20 choices on it, I’m always leery.

Good point. I also worry about the quality/freshness of items on gigantic menus. If you’re the only guy all day who orders the lasagna, what the hell are you getting?
The perfect keep-it-simple-stupid operation that I can think of is In-N-Out Burger: burgers, fries, drinks. That’s it. No chicken nuggets. No chicken sandwiches. No tacos. No onion rings. No pies. No cookies. No sundaes.
Well, Chinese restaurants usually have tons of dishes on the same menu but fortunately they are all made with the same 10 ingredients.
