I like the original version. It's about a guy who dreams he paints his hands and face blue and then goes flying into space, beyond the sun, as he sings. He is "happy to be up there" (Felice di stare lassù) as sweet music plays just for him (Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me}.

Toward the end, he reveals that his dream was inspired by his lover's eyes "which are blue like a sky studded with stars" (Che sono blu come un cielo trapunto di stelle). And the music he hears is his lover's voice.

Ah such innocent times, charming lyrics sung by guys in coat and tie.. glad to have experienced the pre-British-Invasion music era..
