“Without the jetway, you can't use that exit anymore because the slide won't deploy. There's not enough room…

this comment doesn't make any sense.

You can hear the pilot or first officer say no emergency to the tower and was nonchalant. It was a women’s voice. Was there a connection because the crew member was a woman and why wouldn’t you declare an emergency?

The reason the passengers evacuated out onto the wing is because the person sitting by the wing door saw the fire, opened the door and got the hell out and everyone else followed him.

With three exits near the burning engine unusable and one front exit unusable due to the jetway, passengers had limited ways out. Then there was the handwringing over the passengers using the over wing exits.

Well duh, thy are for emergency exit and everybody made it out. It would be nice to point that out.

P.S. The seats at those exits have decent economy class leg room too.

I worked ARRF for 8 years at Alliance airport in Fort Worth. We could be at almost any point on the field within 3 minutes of being called even from a dead sleep. If they weren’t there…they weren’t called out.

IMO the firefighters and ground crews were probably too lazy to stop staring at their cell phones get off their butz and do some actual work .

i have visited and lived in some different places but CO has some of the laziest, lame inexoerienced and workers on the planet, on par with Africa.

I am almost afraid to even get my tires changed here, I have to recheck the torque and take it back a few times to get the balnce done right, this may be a nationwide trend with this generation

“The problem with the DEI fire was that the jetway hadn’t been pulled up to the aircraft yet,” Feith said.”

Why am I not surprised?

So it was the girl pilot saying no emergency that caused the lack of fire response.

I’m having a hard time with the pictures of those passengers standing on the wing of a plane that is on fire. The wing where in unknown thousands of gallons of jet fuel is stored.

This would have been an horrific event had the fire made it to that wing . . .

Sigh. Jet aircraft buyers, jet aircraft makers, jet engine makers . . . all trying to squeeze by . . . using synthetic (non-metal-alloy) “composite” fan and turbine blades.

I remember visiting the tower, in days gone by, when ATC used binoculars to observe every arriving and departing aircraft . . . in addition to using other tools for "observing" and managing arrivals and departures.

Suggestion for the FAA and the NTSB: given the advances in camera technology, why not mandate the manufacturers install cameras so the flight crew can actually see the engines and fight surfaces? As planes are currently designed, those areas are blind spots to the flight crew, and they cannot make accurate decisions based on knowing what the problem is that the aircraft is experiencing.

I have small, inexpensive cameras all around my house - so I know what's going on at all times. Isn't the safety of the passengers worth the investment?

Just a quick read-thru of the article and it sounds like nobody is really at fault and everything went as it should given the circumstances. There was no fire until they pulled up at the gate and so no emergency was declared. The wing exit was the best way out due to the heat and smoke at the other exits.
