ST. LOUIS — At least six tornadoes may have touched down across the St. Louis region Friday evening, according to early radar data and damage reports. The National Weather Service (NWS) has not confirmed final tornado counts, which will follow ongoing storm surveys in the coming days.

Areas potentially impacted by tornado activity include Rolla, Union, Villa Ridge, Bridgeton/Florissant, Arnold, and O’Fallon/Lebanon, Illinois. Winds topping 70 mph and large hail contributed to widespread damage, with some reports pointing to both tornadoes and straight-line winds.

Well, what do you call a radar signature that appeared to be a tornado, but it’s not 100% definitive, and the formal ground survey has yet to be done?

I am not doubting that tornadoes have higher winds. No d’uh. They are maybe a couple hundred yards wide and go for several miles. Straight-lines can affect an area over several hundred miles long. We had about ten people killed around here last week from trees falling on their houses/ RV’s or hitting one in a car on a dark road.

We’re in the thick of thunderstorms and tornados now here in the Knoxville - Oak Ridge area. Just lost power and the generator switched on.

One or two formed up in Loudon and one headed to the northeast up towards my way but thankfully never touched down. It went over Oak Ridge and Clinton and then was tracked going between the 116 & 118 mile markers on I-75 near Raccoon Valley Rd exit. I live northeast of there about 2 air miles. We had a couple pops of lightning and that was it. Two plus inches of much needed rain fell here from this front so far. That section of I-75 between Emory Rd and Raccoon Valley Rd is it's own little weather maker.

Yes. We definitely needed the rain. Didn’t need all that wind, but we got it anyhow.
