The Stranger, produced by the late great Phil Ramone, saved BJ’s career.
It’s my favorite BJ album...by a large margin.
He is a gifted musician.
Favorites:
‘She’s Got a Way’
‘Piano Man’
‘The Ballad of Billy the Kid’
‘New York State of Mind’
‘I’ve Loved These Days’
Every track on ‘The Stranger’
Every track on ‘52nd Street’
‘Allentown’
‘Goodnight Saigon’
‘An Innocent Man’
‘The Downeaster Alexa’
Saw him live in 1990 and 1996.He was excellent both times. Not sure why people would pay to see these guys in their late 70’s. That includes The Rolling Stones, ACDC, and all the other geezer bands. Time to hang it up
Billy Joel. Great musician. I think your mind has to work a bit differently if you have that kind of talent. I have been around a lot of them in the past. A few are conservative in their views but soooooo many just dance to the beat of a different drummer. I remember Bill Joel maybe 10 or 15 years back and he was playing to a local group of people in a more intimate setting. He was taking random song request from the crowd and one of them asked him to play some CREAM...sunshine of your love....and he nailed it. Very talented musically.
Funny, something similar happened last Friday night at the Everclear show in Nashua. The place holds 750 people. It was sold out, but still pretty small venue.
About half through the show Art Alexakis asks if anyone has any requests. Somebody yells out some Led Zepplin song, another yells out “More than a Feeling” and another yells out “FREEBIRD”.
He proceeded to play the first few bars of each of those songs on the guitar.
