I think that is the likely reason.
Yet I don’t think they are actually traditional communists anymore. Believe to or not I think they are worse. This new age far left seems to have taken many ideas of Marxists but then added even more destructive concepts . Like:
LGBTQ..especially the trans , castrating near children
Gender theory
Weird blend of capitalism, especially large corporations
WOKE thought
Sort of a self-annihilating nihilistic self-hatred. Seen with immigration. Fems.

It seems to have taken over our intelligentsia class almost entirely. Which is why I’m not sure if DOGE or MAGA will have long term success. Until we do something about our elitist professors propagandizing our youth.
