Well then, if that’s what “did time” means to you, my statement should have been a confirmation to you that she wasn’t in the military.

“Served time” means a person served their country. I did not say “served time”.

I said “did time”. She wasn’t in prison, but the term “did time” has a broader meaning then “served time”.

Therefore, while they are very close in meaning, “served time” is more likely to be used in a legal setting, and “did time” is more likely to be used in every day conversation.
