I saw Simon and Garfunkle on their PSRT tour at a teen club (The Caverns) in Dayton,OH in the lower level under a shopping strip “mall”. The stage was 12” high so the acts were “right there” in front of the crowd.

The opening act was a local group, The McCoys, who had a hit with “Hang On Sloopy” and stayed on stage to be S&G’s backing band.

The McCoys’ lead singer/guitarist was Rick Zehringer who had some very high tech chops for a HS kid.

Later, RZ would move to LA, change his last name to Derringer and became a highly sought after session player for Steely Dan among others.
