There is a cool movie from the 70s or 80s called "A Ghost Story" featuring Fred Astaire about an event such as this. I haven't seen it in decades but it was great.

Ghost story was one of the creepier movies I’ve ever seen. The young lady actress, whose name slips me now was excellent, and very sexy. She played the boss lady of the Borg on Star Trek TNG too.
