My accountant had a client that moved to Africa several years ago. She wanted to move to Africa so she could get back to her roots. She had all her belongings, car (Mercedes Benz), cloths, everything shipped ahead of her arrival. When she finally arrived she went to pick up her car. It was stripped. The engine, tires, doors, hood, and truck gone. Only the chasey was left. She noticed the woman in the town had the same taste for fashion, and then realized they were wearing her cloths that they stole out of the container they were shipped in. All her furniture was stolen too. She moved back that after that..
She found out right quick that didn’t like her roots I guess?
Check with the US Embassy for local conditions. Also check the federal government travel advisories for medical advice. It would be wise to set up a visit before moving to scout out the place.
There are some well run countries in Africa. That might give you a better chance for eventual integration. Check out the business environment. They do need capitol, but that has its own extra risks. Even the Small Business Administration in the US gave me warnings about investing in developing countries!
Some habits are different. Before getting married locally I was supposed to go out at night and kill a cow that would be used for the marriage meal. They let me off the hook due to being from a different tribe.
