It seems obvious that humans, animals, and the environment are interconnected. But the environment cannot intentionally do anything towards humans, and neither can the animal kingdom. The only intentional actor here is human beings. So whether we want the role or not, we are the people in charge. The Bible gets it exactly right on this. We are stewards of God‘s creation, and as such, we cannot be on exactly the same rank as, much less below, plants and animals.
