If the Seth Rich murder is still an active case then simply say that loud and clear. Although I personally think holding the records “screams” Democrats did it, it is still going to seem coverup and breed a further lack of faith in Bondi and by extension Patel.
Almost every law enforcement agency will publicly say “We do not comment on active or on-going investigations.” I’ve heard or read this at least 20 times in my life. I’m not completely clear about why that’s their policy but it seems to be common at every level of law enforcement. Sometimes it’s followed up with a vague reference to jeopardizing the investigation - causing the perp to flee or influence/get rid of witnesses? Maybe a former law enforcement poster knows more.
