I recall posting an article from the Council on Foreign Relations explaining that sending fighter jets to Ukraine would not help for a number of reasons, one of which was that the Uraine lacked 'adequate air defenses'. The EU and US sent portable units but these were insufficient and left the Ukraine, its people and all its military assets open to continuous attack.

Building air defense systems would take years of peace-time construction and funding, and therefore discussions of such were not relevant to the ongoing Ukraine war.

All things considered, imagine my disgust upon reading that the EU chief is calling for Europe to re-arm on an 'urgent' basis. They have no money or assets, defense systems take years to build/train etc. What they could not do for the Ukraine, they will now 'quickly' do for all of Europe.
