Re Canadian smugness:

Well, I wouldn’t like anyone talking about annexing my country. It’s a wild idea, but President Trump doubled down on it today, saying they can keep O Canada as their state anthem. He seems determined!

Canadian smugness predates president Trump by a long time.

I can tell you this ... I flew to Halifax from Toronto and return these last 5 days and the number of t-shirts, sweatshirts and caps with messages challenging the idea of losing our sovereignty was mind-blowing. We’ve typically been more subdued about our national pride than Americans, but the fire has now been stoked and the displays are much more overt than they’ve ever been. That would be a terrific thing if we had a leader who was also proud of Canada being an independent and sovereign country. The leader we’ve had for ... 12 ... long ... years ... has been trying to give away our sovereignty to the UN and its many sub-bodies.

It’s entirely possible that President Trump is deliberately trying to boost our national pride before announcing, with proof, that the UN is trying to take over Canada, with help from the Liberals and NDP. Many are aghast at the idea of losing our sovereignty and belonging to the US. PDJT has very clever ways of making things happen in the world. Is he poking that bear so we’ll be equally aghast at the idea of coming under UN control, which is far more likely than the US taking us over?
