"Two Lovers" is a single released late in 1962 by Mary Wells on the Motown record label. The song's cleverly devised lyrics at first appear to be about a girl singing to one lover who is "sweet and kind" and a second who treats her bad and makes her sad; then the girl reveals that the two lovers are the same person. The song became Wells's most successful release, until it was eclipsed two years later by "My Guy."

Ironic, was talking about Mary Wells yesterday. I was on Jocko’s
Rocket Show on 80 Radio while he was chatting with her on the phone circa 1964. A group of us would go over to visit in studio with Henderson from time to time UNTIL he violated his station’s notice to not have uninvited guests. Next day, the show was replaced by the gospel hour!! May have had something to do with my jarring the turntable!

Jocko Henderson is credited with doing the first simul broadcast,
I believe between NYC and Philadelphia.

This was written and very likely produced by Smokey Robinson.
Listen to the vocal phrasings and intonations for his style.
He is an extraordinary musical talent, or at least he was.
Berry Gordy should have made him an equal business partner in Motown.

As was this early but fairly obscure Temptations song. One of my favorites.

Yes, Smokey is/was a genius.
