Beach Boys were a vocal group that utilized the Wrecking Crew to play the instruments in the studio.
Doors and LittleFeat (LG’s version only) should definitely be in the top 10 and ahead of the BeachBoys.

Interesting you included The Wrecking Crew.
Drummer Bruce Gary of The Knack said, “One of my biggest disappointments was finding out my twelve favorite drummers were Hal Blaine.”

What about Sly & the Family Stone? They were a rock band and a soul band, actually created from the merger of both. (Sly a producer for roc bands like The Beau Brummels, the Mojo Men, and The Great Society)
By 1969, they were way better than the Beatles.
And they did not have the Wrecking Crew play on their albums. In fact, if someone was lucky they had, say, Larry Graham or Greg Errico play on their records.
Unfortunately, Sly stopped using them so much.

The Wrecking Crew - MADE - the famous, well, famous.
Sadly, they never got the recognition they deserved.
Such a talented group.
