Way back about 20 years ago, my wife worked for the DOJ as a cook superviosr in the federal prison system. We went out ot eat one day immediately after she got off from work and was still in uniform. NO ONE in this particular resturant would wait on us!....LOL. Finally, a manger came over and polite asked us to leave. We got up and left without saying a word and went thru the drive-thru at a Chick Fil A.
The place that refused to wait on us was busted by feds and closed down about 2 months later...

It’s the actions one takes that make one “impersonating” someone else.
Otherwise any weekend jamoke could get charged for impersonating an undercover federal officer. Or a doppelganger of a famous political person could be
“impersonating” the official. Especially if they dressed like them.
