If you look into it, he had nothing to do with that. The record company hired a popular British puppet outfit to do the video. Phil Collins only agreed, because he saw the puppet caricature of himself, and like it. The politics of it were created by the puppet company, Spitting Image. No one from Genesis had any input on it.
Mind blowing, 15 minute piece all memorized, I don’t know how they did it and I had no idea Zappa was such a kick butt guitar player. A friend of mine in the 1980s was totally into Zappa and use to go to his shows all the time and he would tell me to go and I kept brushing him off “Ahhh I don’t like that sht” I was a close minded bonehead into Zeppelin, totally regret it now
Apparently, the exterior walls are NOT a urinal.
And the thing about Phil is, I actually found his live versions of the Gabriel songs better than the originals, especially the Seconds Out version of “Suppers Ready”.
It sounds like he had a bad taste in women. His first wife cheated on him with a house painter. His third wife, when he got back together with him, moved her boyfriend in and tried to steal the house. But he’s supposed to be personally easygoing.
You and me both, there was always that one Zappa fan in high school, but they were generally the “weirdos”.
Didn’t Rush Limbaugh love Peter Gabriel.
I remember Rush would play “Steam” sometimes.
How would he know if he was at the Alamo?
Being a musician and on the road all the time does not make for a stable love life.
You are rather blunt and acerbic but witty at times
If we flush artists of all endeavors who are lefties we’d be pretty limited in entertainment or museum tours
Artistry and ideological profundity seem inescapably divergent
Creative people tend to be emotive and not facts digging oriented not to mention pressure from peers and agents and publicists and studio execs and so on
Yes, Spitting Image, and they “took the piss” on everybody across the political spectrum.
That would probably have been his best legal defense.
I hope one of them wasn’t named Myrna Vacks.
When he was asked about Freddy Mercury’s death...he said the truth...he was playing a dangerous game and there are consequences.
I guess the way he said it sounded a little cold..but to me it just sounded like the truth.
I love Freddy.
But Collins wasn’t wrong
His kids turned out great, though.
I didn't have MTV at that time, but I saw a few clips of the video. Personally, I thought the puppets were ugly.
Phil with Flaming Youth.
