I believe they knew Palin would be poison. A lot of Hillary voters were upset with Obama, that they probably would have voted for McCain if he had a different running mate, but Palin made them rush into the arms of Obama.

Remember, McCain’s own Campaign Manager voted for Obama.

Then I recall many comments here on Free Republic in those days, in which many said they were more enthusiastic about McCain, specifically because she was his running mate, and was a strong conservative.
