My neighbor Brent mows lawns for a living and my neighbor Mark is a tree surgeon.
My friend Sharon used to clean houses for a living here in Florida. She worked constantly and I almost blew up at her, but she said she got paid several hundred dollars a day, so I had to keep my mouth shut.
My friend Sylvia used to clean the houses owned by a rich woman. She only got about $25/hour, but that was in 2008. She was primarily a property manager as well as a co-owner of 85 apartments.
We have the sweetest woman (mom of two) from Honduras or El Salvador cleaning our house in Silicon Valley. She still charges only $25/hour! I tip her generously.
We’ve gone through many cleaners who were lazy and inattentive to detail. This woman is, by far, the best we’ve ever had. Incredible attention to detail and diligence. I’ve complimented her on that and she says a previous client taught her to do clean and look after the details. We’ve had other housekeepers who won’t even move the kitchen area table and chairs to clean the floor.
Shame on me for never having asked about her immigration status.
