he was a diagnosed paranoid schizo, who was in a calm period ( probably Medicated) but then went off the rails.
She did not know until he had a crisis and was committed- the whole family kept it a secret. She got out eventually but I remember she could not divorce someone who was institutionalized so she had to wait till his release.
I was just a kid when this happens so I do not have all the info.
