I just looked up what he did for "gay rights." You are absolutely right. It is astonishing what he did.
- Romer v. Evans, 1996. The landmark decision supported the right of gays under the Constitution to seek protection from discrimination. Anthony wrote the majority opinion.
- Lawrence v. Texas, 2003. Overturned the Bowers decision in another landmark case. Kennedy wrote the majority opinion that focused on gays’ rights versus laws that restricted them.
- United States v. Windsor, 2013. SCOTUS found the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was unconstitutional as a “deprivation of the equal liberty of persons that is protected by the Fifth Amendment.” Kennedy wrote the majority opinion.
- Obergefell v. Hodges, 2015. Established that the Constitution’s 14th Amendment recognizes a national right to same-sex marriage. Kennedy wrote the majority opinion.
