I just looked up what he did for "gay rights." You are absolutely right. It is astonishing what he did.
  1. Romer v. Evans, 1996. The landmark decision supported the right of gays under the Constitution to seek protection from discrimination. Anthony wrote the majority opinion.
  2. Lawrence v. Texas, 2003. Overturned the Bowers decision in another landmark case. Kennedy wrote the majority opinion that focused on gays’ rights versus laws that restricted them.
  3. United States v. Windsor, 2013. SCOTUS found the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was unconstitutional as a “deprivation of the equal liberty of persons that is protected by the Fifth Amendment.” Kennedy wrote the majority opinion.
  4. Obergefell v. Hodges, 2015. Established that the Constitution’s 14th Amendment recognizes a national right to same-sex marriage. Kennedy wrote the majority opinion.
I had no idea Kennedy was in the vanguard on all that. Thanks for posting that.
