One of the greatest things about music is that it can be recorded and enjoyed at any time. This allows us to enjoy music made by people who are sadly no longer with us.
There have been countless outstanding drummers since the beginning of popular music history, many of whom have passed away. Their legacy lives on through their songs, albums, live performances, and of course, the stories about them.

I don’t remember any. I was just wondering where she was.
Who *doesn’t* miss Karen Carpenter?! 😢
John Densmore
Clem Burke
Ginger Baker
Don Brewer
In no particular order.
If they’re not on the list, the list is worthless.
Even though some of them are not dead
How can you have Buddy Rich ranked so low, he inspired so many including rock drummers and then you have Ginger Baker at 8, what an insult, I think Ginger should be 1, he influenced so many others.
As with anything in the arts all very subjective.
Densmore was a genius drummer
My wife loves to tell me that the reason I am forgetful is all of the useless clutter in my mind.
This would be a doozy.
Gene Krupa and Ringo Starr is about all I care to know. I took art instead of music in school.
Check out Don Brewer
Clem Burke burns the house down...
Larrie London and Chester Thompson.
“Bonham’s style included the heavy use of double and triple kick drums, fat snare sounds, and energetic solos at the band’s live performances.”
To say nothing of his dropping in a time signature within a time signature.
“Ginger Baker. A jazz drummer in a rock band.“
The thing about a great drummer is that he doesn’t have to do very much yet he can swing massively. I can listen to Baker on Crossroads all day. He’s just NAILING it.
Chester is still with us.

I don’t want to read through all the crap. Are Sonny Payne and Butch Miles on the list?
Thanks for the reminder that I need to see that.
All of the Zeppelin guys were pretty soft spoken, now that I think about it. Plant was probably the most animated but even he was pretty low key.
I saw Return to Forever with Stanley Clarke, Al Dimeola, and I believe Lenny White on drums. White was fantastic!
Are there any dead drummers that are still with us?
