I could be wrong but didn’t Felder have a hand in writing the music to Hotel California, I seem to remember he was instrumental in developing the song versus just performing it on stage

The Dimmer Twins (Henley and Frye) seem to have downplayed the contributions of some other members of the Eagles. Their first real hit was "Take it to the Limit", which was one of the late Randy Meisner's, but he had a hard time getting paid for that later. This is the best live rendition IMHO, and it looks like it's all legit and won't (unlike earlier uploads people have done) isn't going to vanish.

Yes, Felder wrote the song's music originally with what he described as a “Mexican reggae” sound. He gave the recording to the Mob bosses in the band and they wrote the lyrics, tweaked the music and called it a day. I do believe he had to fight for credit, as well.

Yes, the story goes that Felder was just playing some chords to limber up for a performance, and came out with the basis of the song which Glenn overheard and said “That’s an Eagles song!”. Felder worked on it while Glenn and Henley went and wrote lyrics.
