Did you know that Sir Isaac Newton, one of thee smartest men to ever come out of England, once took on the role of detective when Queen Anne made him the master of the mint. He put on disguises, did investigations and caught coiners, making false coins of base metals. He testified in court and even saw it his duty to attend their hangings. I always thought that would make a great movie—and its all real.

Arthur Conan Doyle’s character was inspired by a contemporary of his, who was a brilliant forensic detective, and he himself was the inspiration of Doctor Watson. But it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if he also threw in a chunk of Sir Isaac Newton into the mix. Didn’t know the physicist was also a detective.
