I work with a guy who is very woke, totally into the concept.
I was telling him a story of when I was in the Navy and asked a sailor to hand me a pair of dykes to cut some safety wire, and I glanced at him and saw his face was a rictus of frozen horror and consternation.
I stared at him, and said “What? What’s wrong?”
He said “You said ‘dykes’.”
I just blurted out “For God’s sake, they are wirecutters!”
He had no idea.
