Trump says he wants US to 'take over' Gaza and resettle Palestinians
BBC ^ | Feb 5 | BBC

Summary

Donald Trump said the US could "take over" Gaza, in a joint news conference with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House

The president says the US could "do a real job" by removing unexploded bombs and economically redeveloping the Palestinian territory into "the Riviera of the Middle East"

He also proposed that Palestinians should be resettled outside of Gaza while it was rebuilt, though countries throughout the Middle East have previously rejected this proposal

Netanyahu - the first foreign leader to visit in the US president's second term - said Trump's plan was an idea "worth paying attention to"

I love Donald Trump. Basically he gets elected on the promise of not getting involved in unnecessary wars, then

1. Without any warning, provokes several countries including two allies he had no cause to beef with (one of which was among the first countries to recognise America as independent). While it looked to the uninitiated like he was dragging them to the brink of trade war, it was all kabuki theater - a way of fast tracking deals already agreed behind the scenes, but which were progressing at a glacial pace because they’re so difficult for the other countries to sell. Put their balls in a vice and bye bye blockers.

2. Bitch slaps the Kremlin in the first fortnight, authorising strikes into Russia that Biden would’ve baulked at, and telling Putin directly, his cause is lost (where are all the “USA don’t be a pussy but FFS don’t poke the bear either” Putintsrds on that?)

3. This on Gaza. Pound to a penny none of Israel’s neighbors want half a million radicalised angry Palestinians ethnically cleansed INTO their territory any more than Bibi does! Mark my words, this bat-poo crazy idea is the “It’s that or the two state solution, choose now, or you’re all cutting your own throats” play.

The Palestinians will never give it up nor do they want to be resettled

Who cares what they want, they are all Hamas.

The Gazards are not "Palestinians" they are Egyptian riff raff and criminals from other countries in the ME. Egyptians are not Palestinians. The murdering Yassar Arafat was an Egyptian.

Egypt will put them in their concentration camps where they belong.

Trump is forcing the hands of the leadership of the middle east into solving the Palestinian problem. they do not want the Gazza strip turned into a US Military forward base and that is what trump is hinting at. When trump says take ownership of the land it’s not create us territory with citizen.

I'm for pushing the Palestinians out, basically to wherever will take them (maybe with some financial support from Israel, on the grounds that the state of Israel will buy out the land.

Right now in Gaza there is no economy, and nothing to do except stew and hate on their neighbor. Pushing them out out isn't "nice" but it's the only realistic solution short of genocide on one side or the other. It will force them to get on with their lives and find gainful employment where there are opportunities. And I fully expect that despite the uproar the day it is announced, in 20 years it will be commonplace to hear those displaced say "...yes, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me..."

They always did want to be resettled, most of them. This goes back to the 1940s. But nobody would take them.

“And who will they try and kill in their new country?”

There’s the rub. Lots of Palestinians have been resettled, to one degree or another, all over the Middle East. But they tend to wear out their welcome.

The Christians have been more successful at extracting themselves from this mess. Quite a lot of Christian Palestinians live in the US. I knew a bunch.

Is Trump being serious?

You ask if a person who spent his time taking the spots that nobody had the balls to redevelop, with complications from all sides. You need housing for 1 million reasonable people and need to evict 1 million unreasonable people? Think trump has what nobody else has, We the most generous nation in the world, we Got it.

There is a power vacuum in Gaza, the house of Saud has no desire to get involved and spend again to see it flattened. Syria is a giant political vacuum. By all accounts Egypt should be in there with peace keepers, but they have 50 years of attempting to deal with the strip and get nothing but pain in response thanks to Yasser Arafat’s gang of thugs.

Trump is offering to fill the vacuum with Ramstine AFB 2.0 to shut down both the Hothie and the Iranians, make the Turks a minor player, create disney land middle east for arab leage meetings and build 6 golf courses with an ocean view.

Opec nations left Gaza to rot polticaly for the past 2 decades since israle said your on your own. Its now time for other powers to make a offer. In the end, having the US broker who comes in and lays down infrastructure is an out that does not take 8 years. Its a ton of bulldozers, grinding rubble into aggregate for another round of constion.

The project size if 1 million leave for browner pastures thinking Iran or Egypt is a better place to live is not really more or less than recovery from a CAT 5 with a bit of unexploded ordinance.

It is the same thing as Greenland, there is spot that needs our support, our protection, and a few F-35 squadrons. We want a base of operation, some economic role and not to be taken advantage of as just the purse.

The US navy certainly needs a port of call in the area.

There are 1 million people in gaza that most likely cannot figure out a life outside of the west bank or Egypt. Never had anything to do but hate israle. They have been isolated to themsevels for 50+ years, and really are antisocial to all but their own pitty party. The other million would be fine building and staffing another club med, now with rockets.

The million of hard core troublemakers need to go somewhere where they can sit and hate israle in an abraham accords state under the watchful eye of a police state, so the million of gaza who want to get along can start doing that. If IRAN wanted to extend an olive branch, they would send a bus for 250k select few.

Its a rebuilding job for 1M and a eviction for another 1M. Wonder if anyone in Gaza knows Chinese, hear there are empty cities sitting ready.

Its our airport and navy port initiative Chairman Xi.

When the people of Gaza wake up to the idea that the Gaza seacoast will be transformed into the Palistine Riviera, visions of gold coins will be on their minds. Here is what that coast looks like now:

Gaza in 25 or Atlantic City in 92. The challenges are all about the same, except the local politicians are much less hostile in Gaza.
