Actually, that’s not a stretch.
Here’s the pay for an O 3 with 6 years service in DC, zip 22202. I haven’t included hazardous duty pay (flight pay) so it would be higher yet.
Obviously, it would be less 4 years ago, due to a lower rank, and less time in service. Lenders loan to service members because the income guarantor is Uncle Sam, and the life insurance is $400,000. Did she have stellar credit? How much money did she put down? Was a parent a cosigner with great credit? Is there someone else living in the house that helps pay the mortgage? Is there a renter helping to generate income? Was the appreciation dramatically on the rise (trending up) in the area when she bought?
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Military Compensation:
Basic Pay $85,593.60
Basic Allowance for Housing $38,232.00
Basic Allowance for Subsistance $3,803.76
Total Income $127,629.36 / year
WOW, for most, I’d be pleased for them....
for the DEIs, not so much. :)
I agree
and a 520K home in greater DC is nothing compared to a similarly price house in states just south or west of the Beltway.
