*** In Washington State, the law regarding the requirement of a Social Security Number (SSN) for purchasing hunting and fishing licenses is outlined under both federal and state legislation. Specifically:

Federal Law: According to Title 42, Section 666, Paragraph 13, Section A of the U.S. Code, it is mandated that states collect SSNs for the purpose of child support collection enforcement.

State Law: This requirement is reinforced by the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 77.32.014. This state law stipulates that individuals 15 years of age or older must provide their SSN in order to obtain a hunting or fishing license in Washington State.

This dual federal and state mandate applies to all individuals seeking to purchase hunting or fishing licenses in Washington, ensuring compliance with child support obligations.

Thanks Foldy!

I knew why it is required - to track “Deadbeat Parents” - however, none of the flunkies at DOL knew why. It’s also required for any other professional license, and driver’s licenses too, unless you are “undocumented”.

Interesting thing is...being in the system - having an SSN - is not required by the Feds.
The FEDs don’t tell you that.
I wonder why should the State require it if the FEDs don’t ?

The limits for not having one at the FED level are punitive.
If you don’t apply for your newborn:
- You can’t claim you kid as an exemption on your tax returns.
- The kid can’t be claimed nor can he\she claim any fed benefits
- Good luck finding a job
- Can’t get a passport
- Can’t open a bank account
- Good luck applying for a loan
- Can’t file taxes
and as we’ve seen, state’s require it in some instances.

Living under the radar. All cash transactions.
Can I get any kind of state id\driver’s license without an SSN ?

If you decide to get your kid into the system by filing for an SSN card, if he’s 12 or older, you can’t do it online. You have to go into an SS office.

It’s painful not to have one.
