Amaryllis is pronounced Amma-rilis. The first 'a' sounds like 'trap' and the second like 'bag'.

They used to be all over my grandfather's back garden.

Thanx.
I love how we learn stuff as the convo takes a twist and turn
(Though I worked in a greenhouse for two years in H.S. and from time to time, we nurtured these)

This convo started re: a tweet about Amaryllis Fox Kennedy.
A reference was made to the first name as one liked as heard in The Music Man.
I responded with: amaryllith?
In The Music man, Amaryllis liked Winthrop.
Winthrop has a lisp.
Winthrop pronounced the name “amaryllith”.
Which brought us here.
