Men should not be guarding women and women should not be guarding men. As a caveat, perhaps have men in women’s prisons in case muscle is needed, but the norm should be no interaction.
I don’t get the idea of getting down with somebody, who could compromise you, just because they are offering.
Males have been working as guards in women's prisons and vice versa in NY State's system since the late 70's. Idiots who are willing to give up the good salary, benefits and pension get involved with inmates. Homos work as guards in male prisons and lesbians work as guards in female prisons. There's no guarantee that people of either sex working behind bars won't compromise themselves. You just have to want the job and what comes with it, more than having sex with a convict. In the early 80's, AIDS began in the prison system. No employee with half-a-brain would get involved with a convict back then.
Individuals who get involved with convicts are weak, needy people to begin with who have no self image. I had to report a new female officer who was divorced with two children, because she was involved with an Hispanic inmate, sending packages to him from a friend's address. She got canned quick, but that was her choice. She needed the job, but brought her personal needs into the job. Instead of getting involved with another officer, she chose badly, and paid for it in the end.
You'd be surprised how many females on the street go out of their way to make contact with, and visit convicts. They have no idea that the only reason the convict is corresponding with them, and letting them visit, is to see what he can get out of them. We had incidents where a convict's girlfriend and wife would show up on the same day to visit. Only one could be let in, and it was the inmate who had to make the decision about which on he wanted to see. Oops. I always said, where else could you go to be entertained every day, and even get paid for it?
