I am wondering the same thing along the lines you have posted. Make some noise, and get NATO outraged so they take charge of defending Greenland instead of U.S. troops.

This whole “US taking Greenland” stunt is in reality a theatrical NATO powerplay to quickly build up Green-lands defenses before a highly probable Russian invasion of that area. Trump is virtue signaling against Russia - nothing else.
“Trump stated in his Truth Social account that “For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity”.
Trump knows perfectly well that the only threat to America’s security is the IRAN - Russia - North Korea - China Alliance. It’s evidently NOT Denmark/Greenland which is a close ally of America and a part of NATO.
Trump’s public statement of his willingness to “take Greenland” is a subliminal message that he wants NATO countries Greenland to “up the ante” and invest MUCH more for Greenlands defence against Russia.
Russia is the only threat America has to deal with in that Region. Russia is right now taking over many areas in the Arctic. It’s becoming a real threat for America.
The reality is this. Denmark, France are in motion to help America defend Greenland against Russia’s ongoing massive expansion in the Arctic.
