There are definitely “plateaus” where weight loss seems to stall. What happens, if you lose 20 pounds, you don’t need as many calories! Lose another 20, and caloric needs decrease a little more. It is true that metabolic needs change, the body does try to hang on.
But the excuse makers have twisted this into a pretzel, and say “if you eat restrict calories, your body will go into starvation mode, and you won’t lose any weight!” This is pure rubbish. Bullzhit on steroids. What anyone will discover if they start counting calories, we humans don’t need very much food to maintain a given weight. 1500 to 1700 calories a day might even be too much, if sedentary and/or older. Nobody wants to admit that, because that is basically only a single meal. That’s one reason I like one meal a day - I can eat a huge satisfying meal, feel full for several hours, and not get fat, eat whatever I want. I can’t eat 3 tiny meals, or a bunch of veggie crap, without going off the wagon.
