I love Amtrak. I’ve taken the train from LA to Seattle a couple times, staying in a bedroom. In April I’m taking the California Zephyr from San Francisco to Chicago. It takes 52 hours and goes through the Sierras and the Rockies, and should be beautiful. I highly recommend the sleeper trains.

With the sleeper, you might be able to stay in bed & keep warm if you had to. I looked up the cost in one of those once & it was outrageous, but I have taken long distance trains & buses back in earlier years & they were OK. This was a long time ago & they should have improved since then, but I guess not.

Only if I get a picture of the chick I'd be sleeping with!

Unfortunately, unless they have changed the schedules, they go through the mountains at night and North Dakota in the daytime...both directions! Breakfast along the Willamette River is beautiful, though. Oops, thats the Empire Builder, nevermind.
