How much money do ATMs typically have in them when “full”?

They can hold up to 1,000 $20s I believe based on a Luxxle search.

I suspect they are only stocked with a day’s demand for cash - probably $3,000 or so.

What the NYC merchants need to do is to offer cash back like Florida grocery stores and Walmarts do on card purchases. This keeps the cash on hand smaller and serves the customer need to be able to get cash.

My friend who was an armed security guard for a company that repaired ATMs told me the capacity is:

1 tray maxes at $40k
2 trays maxes at $80k

Obviously depends on the company filling them and expected usage.
But IIRC those are capacity numbers.
