During Carrie Underwood's performance of "America the Beautiful" at the inauguration (a few minutes ago), she was supposed to be accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club. However, there was a significant issue: the musical accompaniment did not play, leading her to perform the song a cappella instead.
This unexpected turn prompted her to invite the audience to sing along with her during the performance.
What happened?
Despite the initial plans for a choral accompaniment, Underwood managed to engage the crowd and complete her performance successfully under challenging circumstances.
To sing “America the beautiful” I mean its possible, if they hate this country that much they can leave no one is forcing them to be here
It made me laugh aloud, not just an “LOL”!
As for the whole incident, I was never a “fan” of Carrie Underwood (not that I didn’t like her, I just knew the name, and that was about it) so I viewed this very neutrally.
I was very impressed at how gracefully and professionally she handled that.
Competence, indeed!
DEI fail but Carrie prevailed.
She’s an absolute pro.
Thumbs up to Carrie - she adapted, improvised, and overcame ! ! !
She did a wonderful job. Not many singers could have done such a good A Capella.
My guess is that they didn’t have room for the band and went to a recording that somehow screwed up. What went right is that Carrie Underwood took the reins.
i think it was prerecorded and she was supposed to lip sinc it but the tape was sabotaged. but she did a great job but only the first verse.
Or maybe it's because nobody knows the second verse. Kinda like the Star Spangled Banner.......
Awesome. That’s better than the choir.
DEI hires in the Band.
I thought she did great. That was a bad situation that clearly was embarrassing and stressful, yet Carrie did wonderful leading the crowd in one verse of the most beautiful of patriotic songs.
It was actually, perfect.
The glee club sang along
It seemed to me that there was supposed to be a recorded musical accompaniment that never cued.
Yes, the music started to play, then quickly stopped, so it was a recording.
I think it turned out lovely without the music.
My dad told me when he was on Guam in WWII, when Japanese infiltrators would call out to be let into the base, they would be asked to sing the third verse of the national anthem. If they began singing, "And where is that band who so hauntingly swore," they were shot; if they said, "HOW THE F%^* AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW--" they were let in.
yes.
yes, it is, most often turns out to be subversives at work.
Absolutely.
I wonder what happened. I can't see how anyone can be that incompetent by accident. I doubt they were.
I still think they should have had Martina McBride belt out God Bless America. Wouldn't it have been outrageously great if Trump had walked over the the Mic and asked Carrie if he could sing it with her then led the assembly to sing together?
Making up time she knew needed to be done anyway somehow.
